The wait is over! The Kawatiri Coastal Trail team is delighted to invite you to the official opening of the full trail, stretching from the historic town of Westport to the charming village of Charleston. Mark your calendars for March 22nd, 2025, and get ready for a day full of celebration and adventure!

What to Expect

The day kicks off in Charleston with markets and live music from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Stroll through local stalls, soak in the lively atmosphere, and enjoy the vibrant community spirit.

If you're up for a unique experience, don’t miss the Underworld Adventures Rainforest Train trips. These run at 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM, and 11:00 AM for just $10 per adult or $30 per family. Even better, all proceeds will be donated to support the ongoing development of the Kawatiri Coastal Trail.

For cycling enthusiasts, Cycle Journeys is offering shuttle services to transport riders and bikes between Westport and Charleston. Round out your day with a ride through the stunning coastal scenery! Shuttle bookings also include a 2025 KCT Trail Pass, with all proceeds benefiting the trail.

Westport to Charleston: Departures at 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM from Trail HQ (175 Palmerston Street, Westport)
Charleston to Westport: Departures at 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM from the Underworld Adventures car park.

The highlight of the day is undoubtedly the official opening ceremony at 1:30 PM. Join us at the trail entrance on Rotten Row for a public blessing and ribbon-cutting, marking the beginning of a new era for outdoor enthusiasts in the region.
