The top of the South Island regularly boasts the highest annual sunshine hours in the country. With its climate, beaches and bays, national parks and booming arts and crafts scene the region is a jewel of New Zealand tourism.
Come for a weekend, for one of the many festivals of arts, music or food and wine, or come for a proper holiday.
The region is a paradise for walkers with its three National parks within 90 minutes of the city; from the beautiful sandy beaches of Abel Tasman to the tranquility of the Nelson Lakes to the Kahurangi and its spectacular bush and the hiking and biking of the famed Heaphy Track.
Beautiful local beaches stretch from Tahunanui in Nelson to the golden crescent of Totaranui in Golden Bay, the laid-back capital of New Zealand.
Through Tasman’s rolling hills and plains there are wonderful wineries where you can sample luscious local Pinot Noir, or aromatic Rieslings and Pinot Gris. Or try the huge range of wonderful beers in what’s regarded as the country’s craft brewing capital.
You’re bound to find a wine or beer to match the many locally grown foods you’ll find in cafes and restaurants from high end to cheap and cheerful. And the coffee is always good!
