No, we don’t prebook excess baggage. This is calculated and paid for at the airport at the time of check-in, as the charges are dependent on the weight of the bag/s.

Additional Charges – Schedule of Fees (All prices are in NZD)

Excess baggage (same piece):

Up to 15kg – Free (included with fare)
16kg to 20kg – $20
21kg to 25kg – $40
26kg to 30kg – $60
Second piece – $60 for up to 20kg (carried where space available, bags above 20kg incur standard excess baggage charges)
Oversized item  – $50 up to 32kg (carried where space is available)
An item is classed as oversized if it is larger than 158cm (length + width + height).

Admin charge for booking changes: NZD $50 (Saver fare class).

Animals (in an airline-approved crate): From NZD $200 (one way). Empty crate is NZD $30 (one way).

Please note: Due to the size of our baggage hold we are unable to carry large dogs. The maximum cage width we can carry on our aircraft is 430mm. For further information regarding preparing your animal for travel and cage requirements please refer to the IATA Live Animals Regulations.

Sporting equipment/goods (e.g. golf clubs): Standard excess baggage charges apply.

Bikes: Due to the size limitations of the baggage hold in our Jetstream 31 and Jetstream 32 aircraft we are unable to carry bikes.

Excess baggage: All excess baggage is subject to space availability. If space is not available on the same flight as you, your item will be sent on the next available flight. It is your responsibility to collect the item from the airport.

Freight/cargo: Originair is able to carry small items of freight/cargo.  Please contact our call centre on 0800 380 380 for further information or to make a booking. Please note any freight/cargo item must not contain any dangerous goods. Please refer to the Civil Aviation Authority website for more information.

Check in closes 40 minutes prior to departure.

No we do not offer online check in, you must go to our check in counter at the airport with your checked & carry on baggage to check in.

We recommend being at the airport a minimum of 45 mins prior to departure, check in opens 1 hour & 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure.

Yes we do carry unaccompanied minors, 5 to 12 years inclusive. There is no additional cost for unaccompanied minor bookings.

Unaccompanied minors are supported and supervised, at all times, by our 2 pilot crew while boarding, during the flight, and upon arriving at their destination.

Booking process: Bookings must be made over the phone due to restrictions on the number of unaccompanied minors per flight.

Required information: Provide the names and contact numbers of:

  • The person dropping off the child.
  • The person collecting the child at the destination.

Drop-off guidelines: The person dropping the child off must remain at the airport until the flight departs.

Pick-up requirements: The person collecting the child must:

  • Show ID to our staff.
  • Sign paperwork to confirm they are the authorised receiver.

We can transport cats and small dogs. Animals travel in the baggage hold and are the last loaded and first unloaded, to minimise their time spent in the baggage hold. Your fur baby's adventure will be supported by our very kind and capable handling crew.

No, unfortunately we do not have any cages for hire. You can purchase one at stores such as Kmart, Mitre10 or The Warehouse.

Yes we can do that, it is $75. The animal will travel in the baggage hold, not in the cabin. The maximum cage size we can carry is 430mm wide at its widest point. The animal must be able to stand up and turn around in the cage.

Don’t worry all our tickets, regardless of the fare you paid come with 15kg checked baggage and 7kg carry on allowance.

Yes we accept car seats, we take them free of charge. Car seats do not count as part of your 15kg checked baggage allowance.

Yes we can provide some assistance. We can provide a wheelchair to and from the aircraft, however, you must be able to get up and down the stairs of the aircraft with very minimal assistance. We do not have a ramp or a lift to get anyone on or off the aircraft.

Unfortunately not, the terms and conditions of the special fare class do not allow any changes to be made.

Depending on the fare class you have booked, you may or may not be able to make changes and what the cost could be.

Yes we have Originair Rewards. You need to sign up by contacting us or fill in the form. Fly 12 one-way flights and your next one is free.

Once you have earned 12 Originair Rewards points with us, within a single 12-month period, you can redeem your reward flight by emailing a booking request to: [email protected] and allowing 48 hours to process. 

You can choose to use the reward flight yourself or gift it to another person, however, the named rewards member must be the person to make the booking.
